Brilliant New Crafty Organizers

We have discovered some incredible new craft supply storage products, and they are all from the same online company called OrganizeMore, craft storage made easy.  Their family business began in 2007, and their products are made in their shop in Tennessee.  We love finding a homegrown business that makes unique, high quality solutions.  Bonus:  some of their products are designed to work with the IKEA KALLAX line of shelving.  However, they can also be used on a desktop or mounted to a wall.  They have also recently added a “marketplace” of other manufacturer’s organizing products to their website that ...

The Styled & Organized College Capsule Wardrobe

July is the month that all new college-bound high school grads start thinking about what they need to take with them.  If you are one of those new graduates, and are starting to get organized for the fall…this blog post is meant just for you!  There are several categories of items that you will need to take, but one of the most important is the wardrobe.  We have had fun creating what we think is the perfect college capsule wardrobe.  Of course it can be tweaked here and there for each individual’s needs, as well as for seasonal needs, but this is a good place to start and can double as ...

Our Vacation: Roses, Buds and Thorns

There is an exercise that some summer camp counselors use at the end of each camp, called “Rose, Bud, Thorn”.  They ask their campers to give them one highlight (or “Rose”), one thing they could do better (or “Bud”), and one low point (or “Thorn”).  This is a great way of getting kids in the habit of incorporating reflection and gratitude in to their daily lives.  In turn, the counselors gather useful feedback on how they might make the experience better for the next time around.

I thought it might be fun to share our “Roses, Buds and Thorns” while reflecting on our recent family vacation.  We picked southern California, and here’s ...

Summertime: The Perfect Time for Kids to Organize Their Spaces

Yahoo!  School’s out and summer’s here (finally)!  If you have kids, I’m sure you are both excited for what the summer holds and nervous about keeping them engaged and entertained.  We have some thoughts on what they can be doing right now before summer camps and other activities vie for their attention.  Set out the following goals, and of course share with them that there will be a great reward at the end of this project. A summer blockbuster movie night is one possibility.

Turn on some of their favorite tunes, then provide snacks for breaks, trash bags for trash/recycling and hand out two or three big boxes for them to put ...

A Cherished Heirloom Becomes the Perfect Hideaway

As we helped our client organize her family’s craft supplies, we were met with a challenge (and we LOVE a challenge)!  She needed an inconspicuous place to keep her craft supplies in the formal dining room, because for the time being it holds the biggest table in the house for working on projects.  She needed the supplies close at hand, yet easily hidden during the holidays and when family or guests come over for dinner.  Several storage options were discussed, but as soon as Leticia walked by the heirloom Military Campaign Chest (probably dating back to the 19th century) she had that lightbulb moment.  It was already in the dining room ...

The Things Adults Have to Do to Play Hooky

My mind keeps wandering to the beautiful, southern California weather I will experience on my summer vacation.  I’ve been counting down the days.  Oh, hold on just a second…those wonderful thoughts are suddenly overshadowed with all of the “to do” items that I should be writing down.   Can you believe all of the things adults have to do to get ready to take some time off these days?  I think to myself, “Wouldn’t it be great if I could just play hooky like Ferris Bueller did when he took his day off!?!”

Wait.  Ferris Bueller wasn’t an adult!  As an adult I can’t play hooky until all of these things are ...
