2014 Fall Fashion Trends

2014 Fall Fashion Trends

Football has begun.  It’s still super hot outside.  Baylor has a new, beautiful stadium on campus.  I got 3” of rain saturday night.  School is in session.  And there are at least 35 fall fashion trends available for you to incorporate into your current wardrobe.

Seriously?!  That many fashion trends!  What’s a stylish woman to do?  Enjoy the football match-ups, stay cool, Sic’em Bears!, be thankful for the rain and continue reading for your own class on the 2014 fall fashion trends.

Who makes this stuff up anyway?  Trends happen when several designers have any of these the same: shape, pattern, texture, color, accessory, make-up, hair or nails.  Fashion editors are the lucky ones who attend the fabulous fashion shows to discover these trends.  We wait for our favorite fall fashion magazine to tell us what will be on-trend for the next season.  Then, look in our closets & wonder how to create enough Fashionista looks to make it to the next season without going broke.

To get your design juices flowing, here are the basics for the 2014 fall season.

1.  Shape  Rounded sleeves & skirts, architectural/sharp & soft (think all over knits)

2.  Pattern  Houndstooth, plaid, zebra, panther, crocodile & large floral

3.  Texture  Tweed, fur, feathers, shiny metals, leather, velvet & knits

4.  Color  Grey, Off white/winter white, ruby red & emerald navy

The key this season is an all-over look with a pattern or texture in a monochromatic theme, wearing varying shades of one color, is mega on-trend.  Of course, for those of us a little more conservative, having a piece here & there in our outfit works too. A dress is the easiest way to have an all over look without feeling too trendy.

So while you are storing white & beige linen, neon & pastel garments in the back of your closet & pulling out your heavier weight clothes in anticipation for the cooler weather, notice how many garments you have in the shapes, patterns, textures and colors listed above.

Read next week’s blog to discover the 2014 fall accessory trends, the following week for a beauty expert’s guest blog on hair, make-up and nail trends & the final Monday in September to learn how to pull it all together.
