Putting Things Away

Putting Things Away

I just finished filing a pile of paperwork that has been waiting & waiting to be filed.  Even as a Professional Organizer, filing is one of my least fun things to do.  Once you have finished a project, your bills, homework, etc, filing or putting your tools away is the signal that you are truly finished.  It’s definitely the icing of the cake of completing a task so why is it such a drudgery?

I really don’t have the answer.  That might not be comforting but maybe the fact that a professional in this area finds it so blah might be.  I do like putting laundry away and seeing a nice, tidy closet but not dishes.  I like putting garden tools away but not paperwork.  And, I like putting groceries away but not holiday decor.  Well, can anyone blame me on the last one?

It’s not that it is really hard to put any of these back into their little secure home where they long to be…protected & warm.  So why then do we drag it out?  Why do we allow a pile of stuff to take over our space….clutter our homes as well as our mind?  Nag & nag & nag & nag our subconscious for weeks, months or even years.

It’s not until you have buckled down & put things away that you realize how much that stuff waiting for your attention has really had 90% of your attention all the time.  Be honest, you feel a huge weight lift off of you when done!  Typically, you step back & take in your accomplishment, then wonder why it took so long when the reward is so great.

Treat yourself today by not putting off today what you said you would do tomorrow.  You’ll thank yourself.  What has been waiting to be put away that will still be waiting when you go to the funeral home?  Share at Styled & Organized Living Facebook Page.
