Using Color to Keep Your Wardrobe Current

Keeping your wardrobe current doesn’t have to be expensive, difficult or time consuming.  With many of us making a conscience decision to extensively edit our wardrobes it might be helpful to know that color can be a way to inject some “freshness” each season.  The retailers do such a good job at making us feel like we “need it all” that it is really tempting to purchase an all-new wardrobe every three months.  While this may sound fun to some, in reality we don’t have the time, energy or funds to keep it up for very long.  One way to keep looking current, without all of the investment, is to inject some new color with a few key accessory pieces.

The world’s leading authority on color is PANTONE®.  As stated on their website,
“The PANTONE® name is known worldwide as the standard language for color communication from designer to manufacturer to retailer to customer.”  PANTONE®’s Color Institute has a huge influence on the color of products manufactured each year, as well as each season.  The 2017 color of the year is Greenery.

PANTONE® also releases fashion color reports that greatly impact the direction of the fashion industry’s color palettes for each season.  In September of each year they unveil the collection of colors that they think will make an impact in the following year’s spring fashions.  Here is the group they selected for Spring 2017.

Armed with this color intelligence from PANTONE®, how can you go wrong when shopping for those key pieces that really speak to you.  This is the fun part about fashion…it’s so personal that you get to make a statement every day with what you are wearing.  If you are more into “neutrals”, there are still some low-key ways to add a tiny bit of color here and there.  How about a clutch accented with the brilliant orange color called “Flame”…or a light weight wrap in the beautiful soft-pink hue called “Pale Dogwood”.  These could be added to a neutral outfit to kick it up a notch.  Or live dangerously and go with a piece that incorporates more than one of these colors!  Here are some fashion accessories that we love that have one or more of these spring colors.

For a touch of Pink Yarrow” and Hazelnut”, go for this bag from Kate Spade:  Bayard Place Little Babe.

For a hint of Flame”, add these from Anne Taylor:  Felipa Suede D’Orsay Pumps.

And for a bit of Lapis Blue” and Niagara”, invest in this scarf from Free People:  Vintage Silk Tie Skinny Scarf.

Now go have fun shopping for your key pieces…and tell them Styled & Organized sent you!
