Stage Your Home for Guests

Come this weekend, chestnuts will be roasting on the fire, bellies will still be full from Thanksgiving leftovers, bundles of packages will be wrapped under the tree & everyone will be tired.  It’s that time of year!  So much fun, celebrating, catching up & running around.  Family & friends will be descending on our homes for a meal, gathering or even overnight.

Are you ready?

There’s an easy way to make sure your guests feel comfortable & can find what they need in your home….by stepping into their shoes or if they are staying the night, their bed.  It’s true.  When you spend a night in your guest accommodations, whatever they may be, you will quickly discover ...

Organizing Changes Lives

In November 2016, the Styled & Organized team was contacted about a special family in desperate need of help.  After two years of fighting her husband’s cancer and one child’s severe allergies, Renee was overwhelmed.  Now a young widow with two small children, she was unable to see how to change their house back into their home.  They needed help!

In three days, the Styled & Organized team lead a group of volunteers from Renee’s church and the children’s school to pack up the entire house so new flooring could be installed.  After the new flooring was completed, we unpacked sorting, editing and organizing all along the way. We transformed a disorderly ...

Organizing Your Creative Space: Make Your Desk Work for You!

Now that I have been using my overhauled craft room for a little while, I have been noticing the small touches that make it function nicely for multiple purposes. These touches allow me to transition smoothly from one project to another with ease.

I have discovered that my desk is probably one of my most important “multi-functional tools” because without it I couldn’t do everything I do in my craft room, including:

  • Sewing
  • Knitting
  • Scrapbooking/paper arts
  • Computer work

To support all of these activities, we decided to set my desk up as a “work peninsula” which allows me to keep my computer at one end and a big 24” x 36” cutting mat on the other. Since the cutting mat also works as a good overall desk protector (no ...

Organizing Your Creative Space: Dealing with Seasonal Craft Supplies

When it comes to crafting, there are so many things that inspire us to make things.  One of my biggest crafting inspirations is celebrating holidays, and I’ll bet most crafters would say the same.  There are SO many crafts that can make them even more special.  Tell me….who doesn’t love to receive a handmade gift that was made especially for them?  There are also countless ways to bring handmade items into our seasonal decor.  Handmade pillows, welcoming wreaths and floral centerpieces are just a few examples of items that can be made to make our homes feel wonderfully cozy for any season.

Here’s an example of some Christmas crafting I did for our home. It is a collage of paper rosettes I hung in the kitchen ...

Organizing Your Creative Space: Labels are the Unsung Hero of Your Craft Room

Label, label, label! In our previous “Organizing Your Creative Space” blog articles, Part 1 and Part 2, you could see all of the boxes and bins that I used to sort my hobby supplies by type and/or purpose. In my rush to the “big reveal” I almost forgot the one important thing that makes organization work…. labeling every container that hides contents from easy viewing. To maximize the efficiency of your newly organized space, you cannot skip this step or you will be right back to hunting through all of those bins. An organized space always ...

Organizing Your Creative Space: View Your Storage Area as “Prime Real Estate”

While clearing the clutter in my craft room I have been learning some lessons in organizing in the most efficient way possible. My mentor, Leticia Pfeiffer (of Styled & Organized), has introduced me to a new concept: Think of your main storage area as valuable real estate. In my craft room the main storage area is a shelving unit that we refer to as the Craft Credenza.

Here is the “before” picture of the Craft Credenza:

This shelving unit had an up-scale title, but it had become the down-market hodgepodge of all my crafty hobbies. Two sewing machines took up most ...

Organizing Your Creative Space: When Your Creativity is Lost in the Clutter

A Craft Room Intervention

After working for Styled & Organized for several months I was feeling like I needed to “come clean” about the most embarrassing part of my home.  After all, if I’m going to be a true asset to Leticia Pfeiffer’s professional organizing business I better start applying her strategies to all areas of my life!  I had already tackled some small parts of my home (catchall drawer, cosmetics drawer, pantry, etc…)  These initial projects only took an hour or two of my time, but the end results were life changing.  Knowing what a huge impact organization can have on my everyday life…I knew it was what I needed in my craft room.  It was time to tackle organizing my creative ...

Closet Make-Over

Closet Make-Over

I worked with a new, super fabulous client last week organizing both His & Hers into one closet.  My first impression of the space was, “not bad”.  There was floor space available for me to walk into the closet and stand, the closet was separated between His & Hers proportionately & most like items were together i.e. jackets vs tops.  But, as the client expressed, it still felt messy.

Here are the steps we took to whip this wardrobe into shape and make it feel like shopping in a boutique.

  1. REMOVAL:  We removed all items from the floor & extraneous items from shelves.

  2. ADJUSTMENTS:  We adjusted the height of the Elfa shelves on both sides ...
