An Organizer’s Chaos Confession

Last week was a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Week.

I indulged in a girls’ weekend of fun and came home with no voice.

I took on 11 new clients (Woohoo!) and had to work through midnight to finish their designs & field emails.  I told a neighbor I could drive her son to school.  That made me hate my alarm; I missed my morning run.

An hour-away client decided she wanted me to design another California Closet (Yippee!) and I left my laptop charger at her home.

When a Big Event finally happened Thursday night, I had to have a colleague make my presentation.  Did I mention that I lost my voice?

What else happened last week? . . .

Each morning I have started with a mega vitamin C OJ, but the rest of the day could only find time for soup and fast food.

I received a “can’t pass up offer” to advertise my business but I had to design my ad in 2 days. It took emailing back and forth and 3 revisions to get typos and layout corrected.

While purchasing Starbucks gift cards to give away after my Big Presentation, the Starbucks girl asked if I would like some tea.  I pointed to my throat and mouthed, “No thank you”.  She said, “No charge.  You really sound like you need it!”  (Thank you Preston/Frankford Barista!)  I worked with a client Friday to organize his study.  After he listened to me cough up a lung . . . twice, he offered me lemon, honey tea.  Drink offer was repeated again on Saturday while at another client’s home.  It’s day six and I still don’t have a voice.

So, I’m sitting here wondering how my week got out of control.  I’m an organizer!  I teach other people how to maintain control of their schedules and affairs.

The answer is simple; . . . My over-scheduling made the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week.  Figuring that out was easy.  But I’m still over-scheduled.

I will have to function through more days of silence before my voice returns.  The quiet time would be good for writing my thank you’s for the great weekend.  But if I sit down to write, tea cups may pile up in the sink (not really but I had you going).  New clients keep calling for my help (Yeah!) but I can’t help them all at once.  Since it’s finally nice outside, I need to plant fall plants and pull out drought victims. . . .

It will take me until next week’s blog to dig out of my hole before I’ll have a chance to tell you how to get out of your over-scheduling dilemma and avoid T, H, NG, VB days.
