Hitting a Wall: Organizational Motivation

Hitting a Wall: Organizational Motivation

Have the lazy days of summer become a little hazy because of all the clutter that has built up while you relaxed?  Does your house looks like the maid quit!

If you could just twinkle your nose like Samantha on Bewitched or fold your arms & nod your head like Jeannie in I Dream of Jeannie, your home would miraculously be back in order.  But alas……that won’t happen.

So, here are 5 ways to get you & the family motivated to declutter your home so you can start enjoying the lazy days of summer without the clutter haze.

1. Music:  Turn it on & up to set the fun atmosphere.

2. Blinds: Get ...

Life is Better Organized!

Welcome to the introductory Styled & Organized Living newsletter.  A newsletter to help you find ways to organize your things and your time.   Because, when you reach the end of your very busy day after making 3 meals, snacks, doing laundry, driving your kids to every event known to man, feeding the dog/cat/hamster/fish/iguana, taking out the trash, doing the dishes, helping with homework/school projects & maintaining your home all while trying to stay physically & mentally fit. . . . . the one thing that can keep you moving  forward is an organized life.

Organization

Organization is simply an efficient and orderly approach to a task.  The hard part is making the commitment to achieve that the majority of the time.  I will ...

Organization in Chaos

Organization in Chaos

If you’ve ever visited New York City, you know how chaotic the city feels; people jostling you from every angle, an overload of sights & sounds and a frantic pace.  But in the frenzy, your eye catches a purposeful, symbol of order giving you stability that you cling to.

newsstands

Newsstands are organized with newspapers out in the client’s path grabbing their attention to spend money on something they “need”.  Fun-reading magazines are right above newspapers so the client can easily add a guilty pleasure.  Food is at the top for the last minute impulse purchase.  And the sales clerk is right in the middle at eye-level ...

Do You Have Too Much Stuff?

Do You Have Too Much Stuff?

Each day we are bombarded with advertisements enticing us to purchase the newest clothes, toys, furniture, tools, etc.  And if the lure of something new doesn’t pull you to shop, there is always a bargain to be had.

After looking past all the Sunday sale ads yesterday, the Dallas Morning News Parade article, “Is Your Stuff Weighing You Down?” caught my attention.  The author, Anna Quindlen, confessed to being a pack rat, and offered help to overcoming Peter Walsh’s favorite cry of “Too much stuff!”

Really, all Organizational Guru’s will tell you getting organized all comes down to letting go of the excess.  Sounds so easy!  But, we all know if can be so very hard.  Having time, ...

Easter Dinner

This is the first Easter I have ever cooked Easter dinner.  My Easter’s have always been spent with my mother’s family in Missouri until I was 6 & then just my immediate family with everyone else cooking.

So yesterday I rushed home from Easter services to cook mustard glazed beef tenderloin, parmesan bread crumb roasted asparagus & fresh rosemary roasted new potatoes.  Martha Stewart’s recipes I found some time ago & have been saving for a special occasion.  Well not the potatoes.  I do those all the time.

Usually, some things I cook turn out wonderful with most overcooked or just not quite like the picture.  And certainly nothing finishes cooking all at the same time!  But ...

An Organized Life

My grandmother on my mother’s side was an expert household manager.  On Sunday mornings, she got 3 girls dressed & combed & my uncle Phil’s cowlicks slicked down still arriving at church on time.    When all 4 children came down with the flu at the same time, she set up her own hospital ward with cots on either side of a double bed.  For two weeks, she kept temperature & symptom charts & phoned in a report to the doctor each afternoon.

She was active in PTA, Girl Scouts and church activities.  She sang in the church choir & made time for fishing, gardening, bowling & puzzles.  She was an avid Cardinal baseball fan, crocheted tablecloths or bed spreads for family ...

My Valentine to Organization

How do I love being Organized?

Let me count the ways.

I love waking in the morning to everything in it’s place;

my keys & purse by the door, allowing a leisurely pace

for smooth beginnings and ideal days.

I love being organized to the level of everyday’s

most pressing need,

from dawn to moonlit night.

I love being Organized freely,

No apologies;

I love being Organized purely,

without accolades.

I love being organized with a passion to put it to use,

To overcome clothes on the floor, & papers on the loose.

I love ...

What is This Thing Called Organization?

I started this morning with a flat tire.  Ugh!  It’s Monday morning!  Everybody is crazy & it takes 3 times as long to do anything or get anywhere.  What am I going to do?  My morning could go one of two ways:

1.  I have time to rearrange a few things & get the tire fixed

2.  I’ll be late to a client’s home and won’t get my To Do list completed today.

Sometimes when I tell people what I do, I receive a blank stare back.    Actually, it’s really every time but whose counting.  I think it’s the word organization that does it.  Let’s face it, if you aren’t organized, then how can you really understand the definition of organization or quickly get ...

Martin Luther King Your Year

Martin Luther King was an amazing man.  He had faults like the rest of us.  Still he achieved great things because of his dream of what life could look like, the goals he set & the determination to achieve his dream.  So why did Dr. King’s dream prevail over his challenges – his own inner challenges and ones from the outside?

1.  He Looked to the Past

In reflecting what life had been like, he could see the things he liked but more importantly the things he wanted to change.  He may have even written these down to help him remember.

2.  He Looked to the Future

Daydreaming about what life could be like, letting his imagination run wild, allowed Dr. King to ...
