Spring Clean Challenge

Spring Clean Challenge

With the weather being so incredibly nice today–warmer & cloudless, sunny sky–it makes me want to jump up and get the house & garden ready for spring and for the following summer fun.  Add the wind whipping around and I feel a little extra sassy. . . . But not sassy enough to do it all in one day or all by myself.  So let’s do those Spring Cleaning tasks together.

I propose a Spring Clean Challenge.  20 days to tick cleaning and “spring-afying” items off your To Do list.  20 days to make your home, family & yard ready for the rebirth of spring.

I promise that each task will take you no longer than 15 to 20 minutes.  Who’s with me?

I will post a new task for ...

Amour Amour

Amour Amour

My family has a long history of love stories & long, affectionate marriages.  My mom always told me that before she agreed to marry my dad she had to decide if she could live with his quirky habits.  She decided she could obviously since he’s my father.  The point is, we all have quirky things we do that can get on anyone’s nerves.  And, your significant other has things that really bother you after all these years or maybe not so many years.  Why not take this week, the week of love, amour, lieben, amor to ignore that dish left in the sink, socks left on the floor, bed unmade, drinking out of the carton, etc.  Bring back the twinkle in your ...

Project Pitfalls

Project Pitfalls

We all have such good intentions when we make a resolution to complete a project or change a habit.  As we set our mind to the task at hand, the voices in our head start talking, yelling & then screaming at us pulling us away to things we’ve been putting off for months.  We end up getting a whole lot done amazingly just not the thing we set out to do.  So how can we stay on the straight & narrow?  How can we overcome our fear of starting a journey to living a better life?  What are the standard excuses & how do we squelch them?

1. I don’t have time.  You are correct. You don’t have time to do ...

I am Thankful

I am Thankful

Thanksgiving is such a special holiday for Americans.  It is a time we consciously celebrate what we are thankful for, & unconsciously celebrate that we are Americans each with our own American Dream.

Reminding ourselves of our blessings reminds us that there are others who need our help, our assistance.  Being needed is a blessing & something to be very thankful for.  One that humbles each of us for we realize we could easily be the one in need.

I am thankful for so many things; freedom, a person’s willingness to die to give & protect my freedom, family, friends, the beauty of nature, a stranger’s kind heart, my Maker.  These are the ...

The List

While at a client’s home recently ready to start a day of organizing, I received the, “I have a bit of a conflict today.” from my client.  This wasn’t the first time I had been told this by Janet.  Nor is she the only client who had used this line with me on office organizing day.  It is typically a deflecting method used by clients to avoid sorting & editing paperwork.

Some clients would rather sort, edit & organize their garage or attic in the overbearing August heat in Texas rather than sort, edit & organize paperwork in the cool comfort of their home office.  It’s as if they might be consumed by their paperwork, filed away so to speak in ...

Unorganized Priorities

School is back into swing full time now.  YEAH!  The kids are in school!  It means more normalcy,  a solid routine each day, no one telling you, “Mom, I’m BORED!”.  But, wait, here comes all the after school commitments.  There’s piano lessons, football practice, volleyball practice, soccer practice, all-weekend tournaments, sleep-overs, friends over, school projects and don’t forget plain old homework.

When are you going to find time just to accomplish your basic schedule; working out, eating right, mediation/prayer time and dare I say sleep.  It seems there aren’t enough hours in the day to make it all happen.  It makes you want to call 911 for help.

Here’s a simple little secret all emergency personnel already know.  In ...

Disorganization is Like Debt

Disorganization is Like Debt

If you’ve ever been in debt even just a little bit & struggled endlessly to be done with it, then you know the pain and agony of the struggle.  Nothing is harder than limiting yourself by a budget.  UGH!  Every time you want to grab a cup of coffee, buy yourself even some underwear or go thru a drive thru because you are just out of time, you have to think of that *@$#* budget!  This is usually when a little self-pity sets in & you either give in or stay strong.

The key to overcoming debt & sticking to a budget is simply changing your habits.  Something not so simple to do.  Especially when you see other people getting to ...

My Grandmother

My Grandmother

Take pride in your family thru chores & family meals.  My grandmother did.

Several years ago, when my grandfather was a young 85, he retired from the family farm equipment dealership to stay home and help care for my grandmother.  She had macular degeneration limiting her eyesight & was having difficulty hearing.  Yes, a hearing aide would have helped with that, but with her deformed, arthritic hands, she was unable to make adjustments to the volume as needed.  Her life had become very small with limited sight & sound.  And so, my industrious, intelligent, able bodied, loving Grandfather took over the household chores and went from running a successful business to running a home.  Piece of cake!

Well…..not really.  ...

Why You’re Still Not Organized at the Olympic Level

Why You’re Still Not Organized at the Olympic Level

You want to be organized.  This is sometimes hard to admit because then it sets a standard that seems hard to achieve.  I mean, who can keep a house put together with kids, kids schedules today, your work schedule, a partner who probably thinks this is your job and kids who really don’t care?

But then you watch a reality show, realize you’re no where near that bad and your motivation hits a new high.  You can do this!  A schedule an Olympian would shrink from is created to get organized.

You are determined to take your house back.

Then something happens.  After pulling everything out of your first closet, you have a bigger pile of “I ...

Olympian Responsibilities

Olympian Responsibilities

Dun du-du dun du-du DUUUUN DUUUUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN …..  It’s the Olympic!  I love the Olympic music.  It gives me chills & my adrenaline starts flowing in anticipation of the games.  After waiting 4 whole years, it’s time for the glory, excitement & heartbreak from watching the best of the best strive for the ultimate prize.

For some individuals & countries, just arriving at the Olympics is that ultimate prize.  Others, it’s making it into the finals to actually compete.  And for the few, being on the podium at the end of the day either seeing your flag raised or hearing your national anthem at the same time is grasping that brass ring.

Olympians train all ...
