The Case for Spring Cleaning

The Case for Spring Cleaning

bucket

Most people’s image of Spring Cleaning is drudgery, Cinderella or something to avoid at all cost.  But I want to show you a simple way to “Spring Clean” that doesn’t require an army.

1.Sweep Away Winter

Sweep out garage, sweep off front porch & back patio.

2.Tidy Storage

Straighten up closets, cabinets, toy room & any other storage space in your home. You’ll be amazed by what you discover hidden & forgotten.

3.Rediscover the Fun Stuff

Pull-out summer dishes, the ice cream maker, beach towels, patio equipment, etc you just rediscovered to help you enjoy the warmer weather.

An Organized Life

My grandmother on my mother’s side was an expert household manager.  On Sunday mornings, she got 3 girls dressed & combed & my uncle Phil’s cowlicks slicked down still arriving at church on time.    When all 4 children came down with the flu at the same time, she set up her own hospital ward with cots on either side of a double bed.  For two weeks, she kept temperature & symptom charts & phoned in a report to the doctor each afternoon.

She was active in PTA, Girl Scouts and church activities.  She sang in the church choir & made time for fishing, gardening, bowling & puzzles.  She was an avid Cardinal baseball fan, crocheted tablecloths or bed spreads for family ...

My Valentine to Organization

How do I love being Organized?

Let me count the ways.

I love waking in the morning to everything in it’s place;

my keys & purse by the door, allowing a leisurely pace

for smooth beginnings and ideal days.

I love being organized to the level of everyday’s

most pressing need,

from dawn to moonlit night.

I love being Organized freely,

No apologies;

I love being Organized purely,

without accolades.

I love being organized with a passion to put it to use,

To overcome clothes on the floor, & papers on the loose.

I love ...

To be Tidy is to be Organized

I just ran off to see the new movie The Artist.  It’s up for all kinds of Oscars so I wanted to be sure to fit it into my schedule.  It’s about the late 20’s early 30’s silent movies going to talkies and the people who excelled & those left behind.  A really good movie!

Something struck me after the movie.  People of that era didn’t have much of a problem with clutter. Most lived with pretty tidy homes.  They had fewer distractions, less clutter and more time to enjoy life.

My mantra in life is that Life is Better Organized!  It might be difficult to see the clarity of this statement/pronouncement if you are struggling to be ...

What is This Thing Called Organization?

I started this morning with a flat tire.  Ugh!  It’s Monday morning!  Everybody is crazy & it takes 3 times as long to do anything or get anywhere.  What am I going to do?  My morning could go one of two ways:

1.  I have time to rearrange a few things & get the tire fixed

2.  I’ll be late to a client’s home and won’t get my To Do list completed today.

Sometimes when I tell people what I do, I receive a blank stare back.    Actually, it’s really every time but whose counting.  I think it’s the word organization that does it.  Let’s face it, if you aren’t organized, then how can you really understand the definition of organization or quickly get ...

Martin Luther King Your Year

Martin Luther King was an amazing man.  He had faults like the rest of us.  Still he achieved great things because of his dream of what life could look like, the goals he set & the determination to achieve his dream.  So why did Dr. King’s dream prevail over his challenges – his own inner challenges and ones from the outside?

1.  He Looked to the Past

In reflecting what life had been like, he could see the things he liked but more importantly the things he wanted to change.  He may have even written these down to help him remember.

2.  He Looked to the Future

Daydreaming about what life could be like, letting his imagination run wild, allowed Dr. King to ...

How to Motivate Yourself to Tidy When You are Too Tired

I’ve had a busy day!

Started with two appointments, then the router had to be changed out, a friend visited at the hospital, plant the tulips, clean the gutters before the leaves stuck in them break them off the roof, Christmas returns, pick  up a birthday gift for my sister… and a whole lot more before I could get to the basics.

It’s 7:30 pm. There is dinner to make, dishes to clean, laundry to fold and put away, the next day to prepare for & a house that is in shambles not to mention work that still needs to be done.  Will I ever catch up!

Frankly, I’m beat! I wish I had a maid who would come through and take care of ...

5 Reasons Your Closet Isn’t Working For You

Clothing is our modern day calling card. It establishes who we are before anyone even meets us. It lets people know what kind of mood we are in: jeans and a tee = relaxed, suit = business, fun dress = flirty.

Considering their importance, why are our wardrobes so neglected?

Treated with less than the greatest care? Smooshed together so tight we can’t get out the shirt we want to wear? Tossed to the floor of our closets and walked on? Or worse, pushed to the back and forgotten?

Because your closet isn’t working for you. Here are five reasons why:

1. YOUR CLOSET LACKS THE BASIC TOOLS

If your closet has only hanging rods with one shelf above, then where ...
