How to Style a Closet
Is your boring builder’s closet causing you luxury custom closet envy? Do you wish your fairy godmother would wave a magic wand to stretch the space and help you see your lovely clothes?
Your wish is granted….with a little effort on your part…..ok, a lot of effort, but I promise it will be worth it. Just look at the Before & After pictures above to see that with a few stylish touches even a modestly organized, builder’s closet can become your stylish boutique closet.
Matching Containers
Choose your organizational tools so they match or compliment one another. Above, we reused the silk taupe bin & added a complimentary woven taupe bin.
Proper tools
Its easy to keep the shoe boxes. Some are even beautiful. But just look at the difference made by switching out department store boxes for clear, acrylic boxes. You can see your shoes & have easier access…they are drawers. No more pulling a box from the bottom to have them all topple over.
The other hanger
There are 2 types of“hangers”. The kind you know & the kind you don’t. The kind you don’t are called Pliios. They are actually folding boards that stay in the garment when folded. That creates the“bookbinders” shown on the top shelf. They eliminate messy sweater stacks that always fall over.
Stuff
Your handbags—very expensive handbags—come home from the store stuffed to maintain their shape while on display. Would they not still need to be stuffed once in your wardrobe to maintain their shape? They do! Stuff them with Purse Shapers or make your own by stuffing handbag dust covers.
Accessorize
. . . your closet,that is. Why not arrange a few seasonal handbags, hats, favorite pieces of jewelry or favorite shoes to accessorize your closet, making it a space where you feel pampered?
The Reveal
These custom touches are more than merely stylish. Proper—and visible—storage maintainslongevity,remindsyou that you already have an amazing wardrobe & makes it easier to create stylish outfits. The closet walls may not have moved, but you won’t even notice when you open your closet doors to the stylish touches you’ve created.
