Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

On a return flight from Denver to help a client set-up her new home, I took time to watch the Fred Rogers, Mr. Rogers, documentary.  Boy, do you need a box of tissues for this one!  I kept thinking, oh I remember that, about really everything.  From the Trolley, to the puppets and that iconic sweater and sneakers, I remember everything about his show.  I could even sing along to his theme song he sang as he came in his front door.

My nieces commented that Mr. Rogers seemed a little weird to them.  I think they just don’t understand Mr. Rogers and never had the opportunity to understand him at the perfect age of 3, 4 or 5….Mr. Rogers’ perfect audience age.  He wanted to reach everyone, but he really wanted to reach the hearts of young children.

It’s redundant to say how very much we all need to be neighborly to one another loving others as we love ourselves.  Maybe we just don’t love ourselves anymore?  When we don’t, we look up one day and find:

Maybe we just don’t have time to love ourselves anymore?  When was the last time you took care of you and your environment?  When was the last time you felt you had the time?  Being neighborly starts with each of us in our own homes.
