The Twelve Days of Holiday Organizing: Winterize Your Car

Winter Weather-Proof Your Car

Preparing your car for the cold (and possibly snowy and icy) weather will help you in the long run.  We offer this basic list of things to do to ensure your car is ready to drive you safely through the winter season:
  1. Check your antifreeze level, and fill it if needed.
  2. Check the tire tread.  If the tread is bad it may be time to invest in a new set of tires.  You will be so glad you did when you are driving across icy bridges this winter.
  3. Run your windshield wipers, and if they aren’t performing at their optimal level you may want to ...

How to NOT Lose Cosmetic Items while Traveling

How many times have you left your favorite & very expensive cosmetic items in a hotel room or at a friend’s home?  Or how many times have you forgotten part of your beauty routine while on a trip?  The first probably only happened once but the second probably happens a lot.  How can you blame yourself when you are out of your element and nothing is in it’s typical location?

Here’s a quick trick to make sure nothing is lost or forgotten.

  1. Keep all your cosmetics in their cosmetic bags instead of unpacking them to a countertop or drawer.  Have a different bag for make-up, shower items, general purpose, etc.  Tailor the bags to fit your beauty routine.
  2. For all cosmetic bags except shower items, unload the bag ...

Top Five Summer Travel Tips

My family and I just returned from our summer vacation to the Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. We packed tons of activities into one week’s visit to these awesome parks, but to do so meant we had to switch hotels several times …which adds up to a lot of packing and unpacking. Which can also add a lot of stress and take up valuable time to do all of that “checking in” and “checking out”.

To make sure we could handle the moving in and out of hotels several times throughout our trip, we used the following summer travel tips to streamline our trip as much as possible:

  1. Plan your trip! Create a quick spreadsheet on your computer and assign each day of the trip it’s ...

European Organization

European Organization

It is absolutely amazing to me the foresight civilizations had even 2000 years ago.  We tend to pride ourselves today with our efforts & gadgets to keep organized.  We even have huge stores & endless online shopping options to satisfy our every whim & style in that vain.

And yet, the Romans are still better at designing ways for large masses

to attend sporting events in one location, entering & exiting quickly.  They even had an exit plan to have everyone out of the Colosseum in 30 minutes if there was an emergency.  I take if the emergency would have been a lion, tiger, bear or elephant getting loose.  The Colosseum has 76 arches where people could enter.  Each person had a ticket made ...

“It’s Nice to be Nice” by Nadine Lewis

“It’s Nice to be Nice” by Nadine Lewis

When searching through my father’s old records for his percussion loves, he played the drums in school, I re-discovered a record my parents had lovingly added to my collection.  A gem for small children about politeness & manners written & performed by Nadine Lewis in 1960.  After I finished he-hawing, I questioned my mother about why this purchase was made for me.  Me such the angelic & perfect child.  I really was!  My teenage years were maybe a different story…but that’s a different blog.

It occurred to me that no matter what age, we can all use a little helpful Miss Manners reminder when traveling.  I think Alec Baldwin has proven that.  So here is Nadine Lewis’ fun little poem.  And even though it ...

Don’t be a Fool about Travel

Don’t be a Fool about Travel

First, Happy April Fool’s Day!  Which makes me think of travel.  Are your eyebrows raised?  Are you questioning my connection?  I hope so.  Traveling is so very important in our lives whether we are traveling for business or pleasure.  It is important because travel gives us the opportunity to see new places, learn new things about others & ourselves, gives us a break from the everyday & gives us something to anticipate.  So why do we go about it so willy, nilly sometimes, just hoping or expecting it to all actually happen and/or work out to be the perfect trip?  This April 16th will be the start of the Annual NAPO (National Association of Professional Organizers) Conference in New Orleans.  As it is basically ...

Awwww vacation.  Nothing is better than getting away & leaving everything behind.  But packing can be so stressful!  Pairing down your wardrobe to a few good items is hard.  What if you suddenly get invited to a black tie event?….  You’d go buy something new even at home so let’s look at the realistic.  Packing can be easy & here’s how.
