Back to School

Back to School

With the start of August, school is just around the corner.  Time to get last minute fun in while preparing for the next exciting school year.  Balance pool time, Six Flags, Main Event extravaganzas & ice cream store trips with prepping for the big day.

1.School Supplies  Gather together old school supplies.  Compare what you have with school supply list.  Then head out shopping for what is missing.

2.School Clothes  Kids grow during the summer. Plan a “Fashion Show” hour where clothes & shoes are tried on for current fit evaluation.  Make a list of what is needed.  Don’t forget underwear & socks.

3.School Backpacks/Lunch Boxes  Nothing tells more about a kid than their backpack/lunch box style.  Let them pick ...

A Happy Closet

A Happy Closet

Spring is finally here….I think.  And in anticipation, I flipped my closet from heavy, wooly, itchy, dark, winter clothes to bright, airy, light, happy spring clothes.  What a difference it made!  Mind you, my closet is always in some form of tidy.  I love returning my clothes to their proper hanger at the end of the day, caring for damaged clothes immediately, keeping my clothes arranged by type then color & editing along the way.  So when I decided last weekend it was time to flip for the season, it really was just to pull forward my lighter wardrobe.

However, it’s absolutely amazing what you can pack into a small space…or a large space.  No matter how much space we have, we all manage to squeeze ...

Organizing Holiday Decorations

Organizing Holiday Decorations

The party’s over…..it’s time to take down all the holiday decorations.  There isn’t a more daunting & depressing task the whole year.  Well, maybe cleaning out the garage but it’s not really depressing.  If you ask my sister, it would be picking paint & drapes for her home.    How else can I procrastinate…..Oh yeah, we are undecorating.  Bah humbug!

There is a simple way to take the thinking out of the work, streamline the task, break it into little, manageable bits & git-r-done as some people like to say.  What you like to do between each step for a break is up to you.  Just make sure it is something that will revitalize you so you can keep going.

Is Preparation Your Missing Link?

Is Preparation Your Missing Link?

The English Dictionary defines time management as— n — the analysis of how working hours are spent and the prioritization of tasks in order to maximize personal efficiency in the workplace.  I consider Time Management an Action… a verb not a noun.  What’s missing in the dictionary definition is preparation.

If there is one thing I learned as a Girl Scout, it is to be prepared.  Boys learn this skill too in Boy Scouts so it must be important.  If you aren’t prepared to complete the prioritized tasks within the allotted time for the tasks, how will you check anything off your To Do List?  Let me paint several pictures for you in relation to the Holidays, & you can decide if you agree.

Holiday Gift Wrap Bliss

Holiday Gift Wrap Bliss

“The bells are all ringing the children are singing of Christmases long, long ago!  It’s the most wonderful time of the year!!”

Is it?  Is it really?  By now, you are probably worn out from “Shopping Frenzy”.  It’s a medical condition that is caused by endless hours of shopping in stores & on line for the perfect gift at the perfect price.  Or maybe, you’re in north Texas & have cabin fever from Icemageddon 2013.  Either way, taking control of your holiday gift wrap situation will help alleviate the stress from either condition.

Here’s the idea.  Why should your Chanukah, Kwanza, Christmas, Holiday gift wrap be relegated to a cramped, dark corner, closet or drawer making it incredibly difficult to access. We are too busy & hurried ...

Are You Ready for Holiday Guests?

Are You Ready for Holiday Guests?

Come this weekend, chestnuts will be roasting on the fire, bellies will still be full from Thanksgiving leftovers, hearts will be warm from the celebration of a miracle of lights over 2,000 years ago, bundles of packages will be wrapped under the tree & everyone will be tired.  It’s that time of year!  So much fun, celebrating, catching up & running around.  Family & friends will be descending on our homes for a meal, gathering or even over night.

Are you ready?

There’s an easy way to make sure your guests feel comfortable & can find what they need in your home….by stepping into their shoes or if they are staying the night, their bed.  It’s true.  When you spend a night in your ...

First Day of School!

First Day of School!

What a notable day, the first day of each new school year.  Everything is so new, unprecedented & exciting.  The energy from anticipation tingles across your arms & the back of your neck.  Even if you don’t have children going to school you can still sense the power of this special day.

But there’s something else you can feel…..fear.  Fear of wearing the wrong thing, being late, getting lost on the way to class, not having anyone to sit with during lunch, gym class, having a mean teacher & just plain keeping up with it all.  Let’s face it, there’s a whole lot more going on today than when we were in school!  Saturdays & Sundays were my own to get errands done, shop, finish school ...

Kid’s Closet Chaos

Kid’s Closet Chaos

School is almost out & your child is moving from school clothes to swimsuits, shorts, T-shirts & flip-flops.  You’re so tired & over school that thinking about the clothes they’ve outgrown has you just buying more to tide them over.  There’s a Scarlet O’Hara attitude of just thinking about that tomorrow because tomorrow is another day.

But I’m here to tell you to seize the day!  Clear out the weight, chaos & excess of their clothes now so your summer will be light & carefree as it should be.

1. Laundry  Gather & process the laundry.  Not having all the pieces of a wardrobe creates hesitation & indecision in editing.  You might keep a pair of jeans because you can’t remember that there ...
