What is This Thing Called Organization?

I started this morning with a flat tire.  Ugh!  It’s Monday morning!  Everybody is crazy & it takes 3 times as long to do anything or get anywhere.  What am I going to do?  My morning could go one of two ways:

1.  I have time to rearrange a few things & get the tire fixed

2.  I’ll be late to a client’s home and won’t get my To Do list completed today.

Sometimes when I tell people what I do, I receive a blank stare back.    Actually, it’s really every time but whose counting.  I think it’s the word organization that does it.  Let’s face it, if you aren’t organized, then how can you really understand the definition of organization or quickly get ...

Martin Luther King Your Year

Martin Luther King was an amazing man.  He had faults like the rest of us.  Still he achieved great things because of his dream of what life could look like, the goals he set & the determination to achieve his dream.  So why did Dr. King’s dream prevail over his challenges – his own inner challenges and ones from the outside?

1.  He Looked to the Past

In reflecting what life had been like, he could see the things he liked but more importantly the things he wanted to change.  He may have even written these down to help him remember.

2.  He Looked to the Future

Daydreaming about what life could be like, letting his imagination run wild, allowed Dr. King to ...

How to Motivate Yourself to Tidy When You are Too Tired

I’ve had a busy day!

Started with two appointments, then the router had to be changed out, a friend visited at the hospital, plant the tulips, clean the gutters before the leaves stuck in them break them off the roof, Christmas returns, pick  up a birthday gift for my sister… and a whole lot more before I could get to the basics.

It’s 7:30 pm. There is dinner to make, dishes to clean, laundry to fold and put away, the next day to prepare for & a house that is in shambles not to mention work that still needs to be done.  Will I ever catch up!

Frankly, I’m beat! I wish I had a maid who would come through and take care of ...

To Empty or Not Empty…That is the Question

It’s 6:45 PM. The kids are yammering at you⎯each needing your attention. You’re supposed to call someone back, & bills need to be paid.  You wish the messy dinner dishes would miraculously clean themselves up because laundry waits to be folded & put away. . . . The list goes on.

But you’re so tired, you just need to sit down for 10 minutes! You can get all that done later.  You remember the words of Scarlett O’Hara, “….tomorrow is another day!” (Didn’t she say, “I’ll worry about that tomorrow”?)

With that logic, the chores will be waiting for you as you try to start your day tomorrow. What to do?

Option #1

Stack the dishes in the sink or on the countertop since you ...

De-Clutter Your Schedule

It has taken me all week, but I have finally dug out of my over-scheduled schedule.  It took 3 days of solid morning-to-night work to get through piled up emails & paperwork. The client who asked to move her appointment to next week helped too.

Why do we give away our time to things that burn it up as quickly as a brush fire during a drought? Time is the most precious commodity in the world.  You can’t trade it, you can’t borrow it, you can’t save it, & no one can make more of it.  How you spend you time needs to be considered more carefully than how you spend your money since the first eventually dictates the last. Consider these 5 time managements steps.

An Organizer’s Chaos Confession

Last week was a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Week.

I indulged in a girls’ weekend of fun and came home with no voice.

I took on 11 new clients (Woohoo!) and had to work through midnight to finish their designs & field emails.  I told a neighbor I could drive her son to school.  That made me hate my alarm; I missed my morning run.

An hour-away client decided she wanted me to design another California Closet (Yippee!) and I left my laptop charger at her home.

When a Big Event finally happened Thursday night, I had to have a colleague make my presentation.  Did I mention that I lost my voice?

What else happened last week? ...

Getting Out the Door….On Time

Nothing is harder than getting up to the same frantic routine everyday after a bad night’s sleep or not enough sleep at all and stress awaiting your whole day.  You might as well just pull the covers over your head and hide…..or should you?

Granted, daily living with an over scheduled schedule is a daunting task, but you are a smart cookie who has mastered much more complicated problems! You can master this too.  It just takes a little pre-planning and elimination of decision making early in the morning when you brain is still half asleep.

1.Pack lunches the night before while cleaning up the dinner dishes.  At some point, the kids will need to take this over with your supervision of course.  Getting them ...
