Getting Out the Door....On Time

Getting Out the Door….On Time

Nothing is harder than getting up to the same frantic routine everyday after a bad night’s sleep or not enough sleep at all.  Stress awaits your whole day.  You might as well just pull the covers over your head & hide…..or should you?

Granted, daily living with an over scheduled schedule is a daunting task, but you are a smart cookie who has mastered much more complicated problems! You can master this too.  It just takes a little pre-planning & eliminating the decision making early in the morning when you brain is still half asleep.

1.Pack lunches the night before while cleaning up the dinner dishes.  At some point, the kids will need to take this over with your supervision of course.  Getting them involved ...

The Time Management Payoff

The Time Management Payoff

Every since returning to work after being on holiday for Christmas, my schedule has been more than full.  Out of the past 12 days of the new year, 6 of those meant getting home from working with clients well after 8 pm.  And still there were emails to answer, invoices to write, marketing to handle, and household chores to be done.  Needless to say, it’s been a little hectic.

Catching up with friends, taking a break, or simple R&R has been hard to work in.  Last weekend, I was able to slip in a quick dinner with my baby cousin & his family who came in to see the Mizzou bowl game, my family’s alma matter,

But I needed a break, girl time, a ...

Is Preparation Your Missing Link?

Is Preparation Your Missing Link?

The English Dictionary defines time management as— n — the analysis of how working hours are spent and the prioritization of tasks in order to maximize personal efficiency in the workplace.  I consider Time Management an Action… a verb not a noun.  What’s missing in the dictionary definition is preparation.

If there is one thing I learned as a Girl Scout, it is to be prepared.  Boys learn this skill too in Boy Scouts so it must be important.  If you aren’t prepared to complete the prioritized tasks within the allotted time for the tasks, how will you check anything off your To Do List?  Let me paint several pictures for you in relation to the Holidays, & you can decide if you agree.

Time Management is for the Dogs

Time Management is for the Dogs

Nothing like dog sitting while their humans are out of the country for three weeks to make you understand the importance & necessity of time management.  Auntie Tish volunteered to care for three Boston Terriers & one Needy Chihuahua.  I knew the gig included five meds for the Congestive Heart Disease/Glaucoma one.  But I’m a Certified Professional Organizer by golly.  I can do this!

You have to employ a serious routine to get four dogs to eat, tee tee & poo in unison.  I raised two Pugs, so I should know.  You don’t want any “accidents” in the house from any said dog displaying his dislike of being left behind by their humans.  And you definitely don’t want any fighting over the food, treaties, ...

An Organized Homework Routine

An Organized Homework Routine

How do you get your kids to do their homework?  It’s a question your parents were asking themselves when you had homework to complete.  You still have homework even today but we just call it overtime, taking work home or volunteering.  So how do you get yourself motivated to tackle your projects at home?  I bet, if you think about it, you’ll find you have some type of routine you follow.

A routine prepares your mind for the task ahead of you.  A routine puts you into the right frame of mind for the job.  A routine helps you focus your attention.  It can be as simple as getting something to drink before sitting down to work.

What type of routine can your kids have for doing ...

Timer Magic

Timer Magic

It is said, “Time flies when you’re having fun.”  It could also be said that time flies when you have a lot to get done.  At least it seems this way on days your To Do List doesn’t even fit on the note pad.  What about the days you have plenty of time but at the end of the day, you haven’t accomplished everything on your To Do List?

Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.  This is Parkinson’s law first published by Cyril Northcote Parkinson in The Economist 1955.  Another way to say this is; The amount of time which one has to perform a task is the amount of time it will take to complete ...

Tips & Tricks for Keeping on Track

Tips & Tricks for Keeping on Track

It’s all fine & good to make a game plan to keep you focused on your goals.  Coaches have them on the sideline at your kid’s game.  But how do you keep on the game plan?  What if something blocks your game plan?  Or you trip up your game plan?  Do you use any tools to help you with your game plan?

Having a reset, back-up plan & tools are key.  Think about it.  Coaches definitely have a back-up plan when the game isn’t going well.  They might send in another player or call another play.  And half time is the ultimate reset.  Headsets, trainers on the sidelines and Gatorade are tools of the trade for coaches today.  All 3 of these, reset, ...

A Balanced Life

A Balanced Life

Can it really happen?

With Labor Day celebrated, school has really begun.  There’s no denying the routine, crazy busy schedules & loads of work….pun intended.  Even if you don’t have kids at home, your daily commute is affected with more cars back on the road.  How can you have a balanced life in the midst of a To List as long as a child’s excuses for not picking up their toys?

Recently, I heard Mark Petersen, Executive VP Business Development – Franklin Square Capital Partners, speak on just this topic.  After year’s of coaching from his Life Coach, Mark determined that pure balance is impossible.  Fluctuating balance in your life is not.  Let me clarify.

Balance is just another term for priorities.  All ...
