Survey Reveals that “Fall Cleaning” could soon be the New Favorite

Here at Styled & Organized, we strive to bring you the latest news and views from the organizing world.  Last month Sparefoot.com published a blog article revealing the results of their fall organization habits survey.  The survey found that nearly half of Americans (45%) believe fall is now the best time to get organized.  They want to get prepared for the back-to-school routine.  However, this survey also revealed that after only a couple of weeks people find it challenging to stay organized.

We know that August can be a difficult month.  Along with all of the new back-to-school/back-to-work commitments, families try to prioritize getting their households back in order.  Summer sports equipment and travel accessories need to be cleaned up and stored away.  Summer clothes, bathing suits, and ...

Wanda, the Stylishly Organized Helper

Wanda, the Stylishly Organized Helper

Christmas day as I was exchanging Merry Christmas texts with everyone, my sister texted me a picture of her newest Christmas present.  Wanda, the Rumba vacuum cleaner, is the newest member of her family.

Wanda waisted little time getting to work in her new home.  If you look closely at the picture, you’ll see it is an action shot.  She doesn’t like to sit still for long.  Her mission is to keep your home or office free of dirt while freeing your time as well.

My sister, Sarah, marveled at how much dirt Wanda managed to collect.  Having just vacuumed her floors Christmas Eve with her much loved Dyson—which I’ll point out never received a name—Sarah expected Wanda’s task to ...

Digital vs Paper to Organize Your Life

Digital vs Paper to Organize Your Life

By now, some of your New Year’s Resolutions might have fallen to the wayside. It’s hard to make all those changes at one time.  Maybe you just need better tools to help you achieve those New Year’s Resolutions.  Or maybe you need to understand the best tools for your personality.

Your choices are digital or paper – yes, people still use paper to track tasks & goals & that’s okay.  The first step to getting your affairs organized is to come to terms with what really works for you.  If it happens to be paper, stop apologizing & hiding your paper calendar.  Better to be organized, competent & sane than incompetent, confused, & frustrated.

P. Phil Helps You Prepare for Life

P. Phil Helps You Prepare for Life

Today’s the big day for Punxsutawney Phil.  Once a year, he predicts for us the next six week’s weather.  It all goes back to the Germans who celebrated Candlemas Day which eventually spread through Europe and across the channel to England.  The old English saying is:

If Candlemas be fair & bright,

Winter has another flight.

If Candlemas brings clouds & rain,

Winter will not come again.

The idea being a cold, cloudy day on February 2nd brings an early Spring.  A sunny day, brings more winter weather.  And today, P. Phil saw his shadow.  His prediction is six more weeks of winter.  The only problem is that Punxsutawney Phil has a 39% accuracy rate.  At first, that sounds slightly substantial.  After all, ...

The Unexpected Discovery

The Unexpected Discovery

Every now & then, you need to escape your comfort zone to see how other people are living life.  It can be eye-opening, enlightening & inspiring or even reaffirming. Traveling without cataloguing these priceless tidbits is like eating chicken fried steak without the gravy. Good but dry leaving you wanting that little bit more to make it amazing.

So you know where this is going…I recently traveled and observed, heard & even took confession of people living life.  I don’t want to be labeled greedy not sharing the insight divulged to me.  But don’t worry, all the names have been changed including the confessor’s.

CONFESSION:  Mitch confessed, “I’m a true bachelor & used to live with clean laundry on my floor never ...

Time to Pay the Piper

Time to Pay the Piper

I understand from a good friend of mine (who will remain anonymous) that some people consider October 15th the official tax filing day.  If this is KEY for you as well, you only have 2 days to file your 2013 taxes with the IRS.

Yikes!

Here are 5 things to make this easier:

  1.   Schedule uninterrupted time to focus on the task w/breaks & snacks

    a.  Focused time = done faster

  2.   File online: Whether you file on your own or with a CPA, this is THE way

    b.  Why give the IRS more of your time & gas money by going to the post office?

How Does She Do It?

How Does She Do It?

Recently, I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) in NYC for the reopening of the Costume Institute & the Charles James exhibit.  If you have never been to this prestigious museum, put it on your bucket list.  There is something there for every taste & style preference.  For me several things, from the Degas ballerinas, theEgyptian wing, early American silver & furniture wing to the Costume Institute.  I have seen many fashion exhibits here over the years, but this is by far my favorite.

Charles James is a lesser know fashion designer starting out in millenary before moving into dressing the elite of his day, including Millicent Rogers, Babe Paley, ...
