I Know That Rake is in There…. Somewhere

Spring is near and you want to perk up your front door with spring flowers, but your tools are in the garage…..somewhere.  If you wait for your tools to find their way out, your grass & shrubs will be so high your home will look like it is in the wilds of Africa.  It’s time to dig them out.
  1. Move cars, bikes, scooters, Razors, squiggly riding things, golf carts, strollers out of garage and away from or at the end of the driveway.
  2. Evaluate the best storage spot in your garage for sports equipment, garden tools, household supplies, grill supplies, power tools, etc.  Here is a good ...

The S&O Guide to Being Prepared for (Almost) Anything: Why You Should Have a Home Inventory

We all like to feel prepared for anything, and good organization is always a great place to start. We are guessing that most home owners have not created a home inventory, and probably haven’t even thought about the need for one. We don’t want to add more to your “to do” list, but here are some compelling reasons why keeping a home inventory just makes sense:

  • Creating a home inventory is the only way to know if you are insured properly (when you make improvements or add expensive items to your home, your policy may no longer fully cover you in case of a disaster).
  • A home inventory makes claim reimbursement less risky because you have documented each item and its value.
  • An inventory can help you keep up with home ...

Survey Reveals that “Fall Cleaning” could soon be the New Favorite

Here at Styled & Organized, we strive to bring you the latest news and views from the organizing world.  Last month Sparefoot.com published a blog article revealing the results of their fall organization habits survey.  The survey found that nearly half of Americans (45%) believe fall is now the best time to get organized.  They want to get prepared for the back-to-school routine.  However, this survey also revealed that after only a couple of weeks people find it challenging to stay organized.

We know that August can be a difficult month.  Along with all of the new back-to-school/back-to-work commitments, families try to prioritize getting their households back in order.  Summer sports equipment and travel accessories need to be cleaned up and stored away.  Summer clothes, bathing suits, and ...

Wanda, the Stylishly Organized Helper

Wanda, the Stylishly Organized Helper

Christmas day as I was exchanging Merry Christmas texts with everyone, my sister texted me a picture of her newest Christmas present.  Wanda, the Rumba vacuum cleaner, is the newest member of her family.

Wanda waisted little time getting to work in her new home.  If you look closely at the picture, you’ll see it is an action shot.  She doesn’t like to sit still for long.  Her mission is to keep your home or office free of dirt while freeing your time as well.

My sister, Sarah, marveled at how much dirt Wanda managed to collect.  Having just vacuumed her floors Christmas Eve with her much loved Dyson—which I’ll point out never received a name—Sarah expected Wanda’s task to ...

Keep Hand Tools Handy

Keep Hand Tools Handy

It’s 5 o’clock & your skillet handle is about to fall off.  The new family portrait finally arrived & your friends are on their way over.  You want to move the bookshelf but aren’t sure it will fit the new location.  Enough flowers are blooming in the yard for a bouquet.

The only problem with taking care of any of these is finding the tool you need.  Why is it you can never find your hammer, level, stud finder, nails, screwdriver, tape measure, cutting shears, garden gloves and more? Searching for the tool you need can make a little job huge.  If you keep your hand tools handy, little jobs like these remain little.

Project Pitfalls

Project Pitfalls

We all have such good intentions when we make a resolution to complete a project or change a habit.  As we set our mind to the task at hand, the voices in our head start talking, yelling & then screaming at us pulling us away to things we’ve been putting off for months.  We end up getting a whole lot done amazingly just not the thing we set out to do.  So how can we stay on the straight & narrow?  How can we overcome our fear of starting a journey to living a better life?  What are the standard excuses & how do we squelch them?

Should I DIY or Hire a Pro?

Should I DIY or Hire a Pro?

With all the New Year’s Resolutions made, there are bound to be some that might involve enlisting or hiring assistance.  But how do you know if you should?  Well, let’s take a look at a few things to help you make an educated decision.

1.Can you realistically pull it off?  When it comes to DIY, here is the difference between realistic & fantasy – Your project is either an episode of Grey’s Anatomy where you are saving lives & taking names (not without a few mess-ups) or I Love Lucy making homemade bread that grows to be 10 feet long …. or really any episode.  If you haven’t seen that one, her you go.http://www.hallmarkchannel.com/ilovelucy/video/GreatScenes/BakingBread

Easy Trick to Eliminate Clutter

Keeping a bag or container in each closet & each space helps you eliminate clutter at the time you find it cluttering your space.

That might seem like something easier said than done, but take a minute to consider.  You have a trash can in your kitchen and by your desk to eliminate trash.  Now, if you had a recycle bin there too, you could easily eliminate the recycling.

Then consider an empty shopping bag in your closet.  Every time you take of an item of clothing for any reason other than it is dirty i.e. it doesn’t fit, out of style, looks worn, etc, it goes in the bag.  When the bag is full, take it to your ...
